YouTube Travel Channels
1. pDrop in Transit
Peter Bragiel travels a lot and documents his journeys along the way. His recent trip took him down the entire length of the Mississippi River in a canoe. He stopped in many noteworthy ports of call to experience the local color and to rest his weary body.
If you're stuck in an office somewhere, this channel is a great way to spark your inner outdoorsman.
2. HalfThrottle Motorcycle Adventures
Pretty much as close as one gets to turning Robert M. Pirsig's classic, Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance, into a video series.
Whether you're a motorcycle enthusiast or not, you're sure to enjoy Ryan Grassley's short, easy-to-watch episodes. Follow his adventures from Utah to Panama while absorbing bike maintenance pro tips and Central American travel advice.
3. California Travel Expert with Veronica Hill
Former print journalist Veronica Hill took to the web in 2007 to transform her love for California into an accessible YouTube channel. The channel includes Veronica's personal picks for the best California attractions, restaurants, resorts and hotels.
If you're heading to the west coast soon, check out her channel to learn more about everything CA, from the metal sculpture garden at Borrego Springs to the culinary offerings at Disney's new Cars Land.
4. Of the World: Travel Videos!
Nick Vivion is a “wanderer with a camera and an open heart.”
He intends to give viewes “slices of the world that you may never have known, or make you look at your own slice just a little bit differently.”
After watching him participate in a wild pig hunt in Baja California, we're convinced he lives up to his words. Vivion doesn't relegate himself to the confines of the United States, though. He also eats bugs in Beijing, experiences a gay pride parade in Sydney and learns how to sing from the throat in Ulaanbataar, Mongolia.
5. Positive World Travel
Anthony Milotic and Elise Reeks are an Australian couple who share their love of traveling by adhering to a three word maxim: “Inspire, excite, believe.”
“We worked hard at saving for three years,” their site reads, “and while these years of saving were to be for a house, in the end, we decided rather than a mortgage we wanted to use that money to travel the world!”
And we're thankful they took that risk.
6. World Travel With Wanderlusts
John and Cara Macdonald also prefer spending their hard-earned savings to satisfy their travel itch.
The two began their channel by documenting their two-year honeymoon and have continued to travel, even bringing along their two daughters, Abi and Olivia, on most all of their adventures.
7. Wayde's World Hawaii
Need a getaway from your office cubicle? Then dive into Wayde's wealth of beautiful videos, which look at Hawaiian culture, cuisine and all types of scenic vistas.
You'll be “hanging loose” and singing “Hawaii No Ka Oi” in no time.
8. Longboard, Long Treks Peru & Bolivia
If you've ever considered traveling the Andes Mountains in South America, then you'll thoroughly enjoy seeing this merry bunch of skaters make their way from Lima, Peru to Potosí, Bolivia. Watching these adventurers skateboard on a thin film of water in the Salar de Uyuni is particularly spectacular.
9. Lonely Planet
We saved the big guys for last. It's no surprise that Lonely Planet has taken its casual tone to the web. The company's travel books read like notes from a close friend, and its YouTube channel reflects the same formula.
Videos feature useful phrases in each destination's native language, realistic travel advice and, of course, incredible visuals.
10. The Travel Channel
Rounding out the big names in the travel industry is the Travel Channel. This TV channel has really filled out its offerings, but buried deep on its YouTube channel, one can still find great destination-specific advice for many major cities.
Don't be surprised if this Oktoberfest guide from Munich makes you a bit thirsty.
