A couple weeks ago, two astronauts traveled to Europa, one of Jupiter's moons. More surprising than their journey – which happened without Congressional approval or NASA oversight – was the fact that their landing module was made of plywood and their space suits were just Tyvek and tape. Europa was also fake. (The icy surface was maintained with a refrigerator coil.) Nevertheless, a crowd of spectators assembled at Yerba Buena Center for the Arts in San Francisco, where they witnessed the ersatz journey, orchestrated by artist Tom Sachs, with genuine excitement….
